Hypermethylation of the MGMT promoter region results in gene silencing, accompanied by decreased DNA repair, an effect that is seen in various tumors, including lung carcinoma, head and neck carcinomas, lymphoma, colorectal carcinoma, melanoma [1,2,3,4,5], as well as glioma [6] and particularly oligodendrogliomas [7]. This evidence concerns the gene MGMT and oligodendroglioma.
