Results of this study showed that the pharmacological inhibition of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)/activin receptor-like kinase 5 (ALK5) signaling increased Oatp1a4 functional expression and that targeting Oatp1a4 could be a viable neuroprotective strategy to increase statin levels in the brain and reduce stroke volume [66].
