Despite “intestinal disease” covering a broad range of gastrointestinal disturbances, those covered in this review (IBD, SBS, intestinal toxicities and coeliac disease) share some common features of mucosa atrophy, decreased mucosal integrity, increased inflammation as well as having GLP-1 explored as a therapeutic to ameliorate the disease-associated pathology. This evidence concerns the gene GLP1R and celiac disease.
