To investigate whether the inhibitory effects of fenofibrate on visceral obesity, as well as hepatic steatosis and inflammation, in obese OVX mice were caused by changes in PPARα target gene expression in visceral adipose tissue, we measured mRNA levels of PPARα target genes that encode enzymes involved with fatty acid β-oxidation, specifically carnitine palmitoyl transferase I (CPT-1), medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD), very long-chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase (VLCAD), acyl-CoA oxidase (ACOX), enoyl-CoA hydratase/3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (HD), and thiolase. Here, ACOX1 is linked to fatty liver disease.
