The unexpected finding that E-cadherin is internalized by Rac1 activation without significant dissociation of catenins in primary keratinocytes (Figs. 1, 2, and 3) is consistent with data from tumor cell lines that the disruption of cell–cell adhesion may not use the classical internalization routes (Akhtar and Hotchin, 2001). The gene discussed is RAC1; the disease is neoplasm.
