IL6 and hepatocellular carcinoma: Although the relation between IL6 and HCC development is still unclear, yet several studies have revealed that HCC progression is solely dependent on the extend of liver inflammation, hence the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines is the key ingredient for controlling the disease progression; this means that IL6 gene polymorphism could result in disturbance in this balance and development of the disease (Sghaier et al., 2017).
