TERT and hepatocellular carcinoma: It has been suggested that detection of specific genomic aberrations in ctDNA will distinguish HCC types and facilitate individualized treatment of HCC patients; however, retrospective studies have demonstrated that patients with TERT promoter mutations in ctDNA are closely related to HCV infection [121] and ERBB2 alterations within ctDNA are more likely to be identified with characteristics of HBV infection [74], thus confirming the possibility of identifying HCC subtypes by ctDNA.
