Multivariate analysis revealed lymphocytopenia < 1000/mm3 (odds ratio [OR]: 21.4; 95% CI: 2.8–162.9; p = 0.003) and high CRP level (OR: 45.7; 95% CI: 9.4–222.2; p < 0.001) to be independently associated with pneumonia. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is pneumonia.
