The plasma levels of several cytokines were determined because of their crucial roles in orchestrating the inflammatory response during atherosclerosis.2,4,5,7 The formulation produced a decrease in the plasma levels of several cytokines, including chemokine (C–X–C motif) ligand (CXCL)1, IL-1β, IL-5, IL-6, IL-10 and tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α, though the changes were not significant (Table 1).
