As expected, these genes included important tumor suppressor genes known to be frequently silenced through promoter methylated in colorectal tumors, such as the cell adhesion protein E-cadherin (CDH1) [22], carbonic anhydrase IX (CA9) [23–25], the serine/threonine protein kinase DAPK2 [26], the brush border Myosin Ia (MYO1A) [27] and the mismatch repair gene MLH1 [28].
