Male mature adult (i.e., 5–6-months old) BDNF+/− mice and their wild-type littermates (BDNF+/+ mice) were submitted to the following schizophrenia-relevant behavioral tests: (a) ASST as a measure for cognitive flexibility, (b) PPI of the acoustic startle response as a measure for sensorimotor gating, and (c) safety and contextual fear conditioning as measures of associative memory processes. The gene discussed is BDNF; the disease is schizophrenia.
