Although several studies have revealed that glucose metabolism can regulate Hippo signaling output though AMPK-mediated phosphorylation or OGT-mediated O-GlcNAcylation of Yap, another study showed that increased glucose metabolism and reprogramming toward aerobic glycolysis in cancer cells can upregulate Yap/Taz target gene expression through phosphofructokinase (PFK1), a key enzyme that regulates glycolysis. The gene discussed is YAP1; the disease is cancer.
