Nonetheless, since Wnt5a inhibits Wnt/β-catenin signaling in different contexts (Torres et al., 1996; Ishitani et al., 2003; Topol et al., 2003; Westfall et al., 2003; Mikels and Nusse, 2006), GC cases with high WNT5A and WNT2 levels are likely characterized by non-canonical Wnt signaling, although this hypothesis requires corroboration.
