While glycemic control via insulin or pioglitazone in T1D and T2D cohorts, respectively, rescued microvascular complications to a greater extent than minocycline, there remains the possibility patients could receive potential benefit from adjunctive minocycline therapy, i.e., it is possible that minocycline could exert a greater effect over and above good glycemic/metabolic control. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
