The IFI6 is a 13 kDa protein of 130 amino acids that plays a critical role in immunomodulation and an antiapoptotic function by activation of JAK/STAT signaling pathway that subsequently blocks the mitochondrial release of cytochrome c and discontinues the apoptosis (23).IFI6 is a pro-survival protein that antagonizes the TRAIL (tumor necrosis factor related apoptosis inducing ligand) induced apoptosis in human myeloma cell through inhibiting the intrinsic apoptotic pathway (24). Here, IFI6 is linked to plasma cell myeloma.
