Type I IFNs (IFN-α, IFN-β, IFN-ε, IFN-κ, and IFN-ω) are presently approved for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) (De Andrea et al., 2002), and IFN-α has been testified to restrict HBV gene expression and replication in other systems in vitro (Wieland et al., 2003; Pollicino et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene IFNA1 and chronic hepatitis B virus infection.
