MnSOD has traditionally been thought of as a mitochondrial fidelity protein or a tumor suppressor (TS), and MnSOD mutations and decreased protein levels are associated with idiopathic cardiomyopathy (IDC), premature aging, motor neuron disease, and importantly, oncogenicity and resistance to anticancer agents 12. This evidence concerns the gene SOD2 and idiopathic cardiomyopathy.
