In our series of 18 patients with embolic AMI, 60% had acute onset with symptom duration less than 24 h, 72% had atrial fibrillation, and only one-third were on anticoagulation therapy prior to hospitalization; C-reactive protein (CRP) ranged from normal to more than 200 mg/L and arterial lactate was elevated in less than half of the patients (2). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is atrial fibrillation.
