Although p53 activation and Bcl-2 inhibition have been shown to reciprocally overcome resistance to each other in primary AML cells, at least in part, through the negative regulation of Mcl-1 by p53 [56], our results showed that the benefits of the venetoclax and ATO combination treatment in promoting apoptosis are efficacious irrespective of the p53 status. This evidence concerns the gene BCL2 and acute myeloid leukemia.
