Human gliomas express the FAO enzymes medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD), short-chain L-3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (SCHAD), very-long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (VLCAD), hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (HADH)/3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase/enoyl-CoA hydratase (ECH), and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1a (CPT1a) and demonstrate decreased oxygen consumption in the presence of an FAO inhibitor, etomoxir (10). Here, ACADM is linked to glioma.
