Some other SNPs mapping to the FADS1 gene were reported to be significantly associated with FFA 20:4.[24] FADS1 encodes an important enzyme in the metabolism of unsaturated fatty acids.[25] According to the pathway analysis in this study (Figure 1C), a significant disturbance in the biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids existed before the onset of T2D.
