INS and diabetes mellitus: As reported by Taylor et al. in an early study of racial and ethnic disparities in diabetes care, non-Hispanic black patients had a 25% lower odds ratio for achieving HbA1c levels of <8.0% and 58% higher odds ratio of sustaining HbA1c levels at >9.0%.83 An analysis of unpublished Medicare data revealed that a notably higher percentage of non-Hispanic black (>75%) and Hispanic (>75%) insulin-treated beneficiaries are ineligible for CGM based on their current SMBG frequency.
