Loss of neuroplastin affects cellular functions as Ca2+ homeostasis, long-term potentiation, synapse formation, and more (Bhattacharya et al. 2017; Korthals et al. 2017) resulting ultimately in pronounced deficits including male infertility, depression-like behavior, and learning and memory deficits in Nptn mutants (Bhattacharya et al. 2017). This evidence concerns the gene NPTN and male infertility.
