To identify the signaling pathways responsible for the enhanced angiogenesis, the expression of the growth factors VEGF and Ang-1/Tie-2, which are two types of vascular regulatory molecules crucial for vessel formation and maturation (Augustin et al., 2009), was analyzed by immunohistochemistry (Figures 5A,B), and q-PCR (Figure 5C) in the penumbra at 14 days after stroke. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and stroke disorder.
