Amongst inflammatory and cardiac injury markers, decreased number of white blood cells, lymphopenia, and thrombocytopenia and increased CRP, D-dimers, procalcitonin (PCT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), IL-6, cardiac troponin, and CK-MB are associated with poor outcomes of COVID-19 patients, indicating their potential to aid in risk stratification and prediction of severe and fatal outcomes (Tables 2 and3). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and COVID-19.
