Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a common chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and impaired insulin secretion [1] It is estimated that in 2017 there were 451 million people suffering from diabetes worldwide [2] 90% of which were classified as T2D [3] Due to the reduced quality of life, increased mortality, and a significant burden on the healthcare system, T2D represents a severe global public health concern. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
