CCN5 is downregulated in human leiomyoma (Mason et al., 2004), pancreatic adenocarcinoma (Dhar et al., 2007), salivary gland cancer (Dhar et al., 2007), colorectal tumors (Pennica et al., 1998; Davies et al., 2010), and gallbladder cancer (Yang et al., 2014), suggesting that it acts as a tumor suppressor.
