In order to validate the microarray findings, eight DEGs were selected based on the involvement of cancerous pathways in other cancers and also in cervical cancer, but very limited studies have been reported in Indian population: SPP1 (PI3K-Akt signaling pathway-hsa0415) [17], TTK (cell cycle-hsa04110) [18], MELK (cell cycle-hsa04110) [19], FOXM1 (cellular senescence-hsa04218) [20, 21], LYN (viral carcinogenesis-hsa05203) [22], ARRB2 (MAPK signaling pathway-hsa04010) [23], COL6A3 (ECM-receptor interaction) [24], and CCL21 (chemokine signaling pathway-hsa04062) [25]. This evidence concerns the gene MELK and cervical cancer.
