THSD7A and neoplasm: Considering the role of follicular dendritic cells for the production of antibodies by B cells (Heesters et al. 2014), a potential mechanism linking malignancy and MN was hypothesized, by which the immune system might have recognized THSD7A as a foreign antigen in the tumor cells, leading to production of high-affinity antibodies, which bind to THSD7A on podocytes in situ, forming subepithelial immune deposits, and initiating MN (Hoxha et al. 2016, 2017).
