CD4 and psychiatric disorder: Where Uys et al. found that the average CD4 count was 186 cells/mm3 in patients with a psychiatric disorder because of HIV and 366 cells/mm3 in patients who had HIV and a primary psychiatric disorder.26 More patients in our study were previously on ART, as per the current guidelines, compared to those in the study by Uys et al. which could account for the difference between studies.26 Unexpectedly, figures for average CD4 count and average viral load were both high in our study, but this could likely be accounted for by a few very high viral load outliers.
