Zhang et al. demonstrated that overexpression of miR-1 exerts a tumor-suppressive effect by simultaneously targeting mitophagy-associated genes including MINOS1 (mitochondrial inner membrane organizing system 1), GPD2 (glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase 2), and LRPPRC (leucine-rich pentatricopeptide-repeat containing), leading to an induction of mitophagy in breast cancer stem cells [71]. The gene discussed is GPD2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
