MACF1 and bipolar disorder: Consistent with the expression of brain specific MACF1 isoforms, there is a growing list of MACF1 genetic alterations that have been associated with susceptibility to diverse neuropathologies and particularly psychological disorders such as schizophrenia (Kenny et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2015), autism spectrum disorder (Kenny et al., 2014), and bipolar disorders (Han et al., 2019) as well as neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s (Wang et al., 2017).
