The examination of different lung lesions revealed that numerous alveolar macrophages and multinucleated Langhans giant cells were immunoreactive for diffuse HIF-1α and HIF-2α staining in the cytoplasm, but not in the nuclei of alveolar macrophages mainly in the distant lung tissue samples of TB patients 24–27 (Figure 2A–C). The gene discussed is HIF1A; the disease is tuberculosis.
