MMP3 hydrolyzes various molecules such as type IV, V, IX and X collagen, proteoglycan, elastin, fibronectin, gelatin and laminins and can also trigger the activation of other MMPs like MMP1, 7, 9 and 13 promoting pulmonary adenocarcinoma, mammary ductal carcinoma and pancreatic cancer through Rac1b GTPase signaling axis [37]. The gene discussed is MMP1; the disease is familial pancreatic carcinoma.
