Proteomics analysis of the HCT116 cell line, known for KRAS and PI3KCA mutations common in colorectal cancer, showed that altered expression of uPAR is associated with modifications in major hallmarks of cancer including resisting cell death, invasion/metastasis and sustaining proliferation, as it affects the ubiquitin-proteasome system and the major cancer-related pathways ERK/MAPK, STAT3, PTEN as well as the Rho GTPases-mediated signaling (Figure 2) [138].
