T cells, but also other immune cells such as natural killer (NK) cells, natural killer T (NKT) cells, are recruited into the liver, secrete inflammatory cytokines, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-17, interferon gamma (IFN-γ) which consequently induce massive apoptotic or necrotic death of hepatocytes and severe liver inflammation accompanied by highly elevated levels of transaminases in serum [1,4,5,6,7], and in turn stimulate Kupffer cells and inflammatory monocytes to produce more inflammatory cytokines, TNF-α and IL-1β [8]. This evidence concerns the gene IFNG and Hepatitis.
