Given that non-motile C. jejuni mutants were shown to be apathogenic in microbiota-depleted IL-10−/− mice despite high intestinal bacterial loads [20], and C. jejuni induced enteritis was ameliorated in animals lacking the LOS sensor toll-like receptor (TLR) -4, this murine model was chosen for the evaluation of novel pharmaceutical intervention strategies for prophylaxis and treatment of campylobacteriosis (reviewed by Mousavi et al., [15,16]). The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is campylobacteriosis.
