However, Lisman et al. [79] did not report significant difference in ADAMTS13 expression levels between cirrhosis and control livers and Ikeda et al. [80] recently showed that high plasma ADAMTS13 activity was a risk factor for HCC development in patients with chronic hepatitis B and C. Ikeda et al. [80] suggested that these discrepancies might be related to the difference in hepatitis activity and wound healing in selected patients. This evidence concerns the gene ADAMTS13 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
