The development of potential tau-targeting therapies for AD includes different types of molecules, which range from agents that modulate tau posttranslational modifications (such as phosphorylation, -including GSK-3 inhibitors-, acetylation, or O-GlcNAcylation); compounds that stabilize MTs; activators of tau degradation by autophagy; inhibitors of tau aggregation; and agents that decrease tau expression (antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) (reviewed in [191,192]). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
