These observations could be explained by the findings of Oudit et al. [39] who reported early accumulation of fibrillar collagen (Collagen I and III) and fibronectin in the glomerular mesangial cells of male ACE2 mutant (ACE2−/y) mice, followed by development of glomerulosclerosis at 12 months of age, whereas female ACE2 mutant (ACE2−/−) mice were relatively protected. Here, ACE2 is linked to glomerulosclerosis.
