Overall the cytokine pattern observed in this study using long-term dexamethasone treatment and concomitant fungal infection, namely lowering of IL-1β, IL-6, and IL–8 and an increase in IL-10, implicates a shift from Th1 towards Th2, a pattern associated with suppressing antifungal properties [9,28]. The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is fungal infectious disease.
