GPR55 in visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue has been implicated in human obesity, and lysophosphatidylinositols increase the expression of lipogenic genes (fatty acid synthase and acetyl CoA carboxylase) and promote adipocyte differentiation by increasing PPARγ expression in visceral adipose tissues [4]. This evidence concerns the gene GPR55 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
