TP53 and glioblastoma: Inactivation of p53 in GBM happens with a variety of mechanisms, including amplification of p53 inhibitors such as murine double minute (MDM) 2 and MDM4 (the latter appears most commonly in tumors with no TP53 or telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) mutations), deletion of p53 stabilizers such as p14/ARF and mutation in the TP53 gene which occurs in 85% of GBMs [14].
