Conversely, in the results of the NCIC CTG MA.31 phase II trial investigating taxane plus lapatinib or trastuzumab as the first-line treatment for HER2-positive breast cancer, the lapatinib plus taxane group had a significantly shorter PFS (hazard ratio, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.20–1.83; p < 0.001) and more toxicity than the trastuzumab plus taxane group (NCT00667251) [97]. This evidence concerns the gene ERBB2 and breast cancer.
