In addition to the study of EMT, recently, several investigations focused on endothelial to mesenchymal transition (EndMT); in cerebral cavernous malformations (CCM), also commonly known as cavernous hemangiomas or cavernomas, which represent common cerebral vascular malformations, Maddaluno et al., showed that endothelial-specific disruption of the CCM1 gene in mice induces EndMT [19], which contributes to the development of vascular malformations such as vascular dysplasia and fragility in CCM [20,21,22]. The gene discussed is KRIT1; the disease is cerebral cavernous malformation.
