One of the limitations of AFP is related to elevations in other conditions, which include malignancies such as hepatocellular carcinoma and others, such as lung and pancreatic cancers [32,33] or the recently acknowledged gastric adenocarcinoma with enteroblastic differentiation [34], but also include other non-tumor conditions such as various forms of chronic liver disease, ataxia-telangiectasia and patients undergoing surgical procedures involving the gastrointestinal tract and liver [23]. This evidence concerns the gene AFP and neoplasm.
