Our findings indicate that an acetonic extract derived from the marine brown seaweed Padina pavonica demonstrates remarkable mito-protective properties, by preserving the membrane integrity of mitochondria directly exposed to membrane-active aggregates of three amyloid proteins (Aβ42, α-syn and tau) believed to play important causal roles in the most common neurodegenerative diseases [16,17,47]. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and neurodegenerative disease.
