Recent evidence of activation of Nrf2, caused by exposure to asbestos, is reported in murine peritoneal macrophages, in which the use of Nrf2 inhibitory molecules showed an increased apoptosis of tumor cells [32], while other studies in human mesothelioma cell lines showed the involvement of the antioxidant role of Nrf2 in resistance to chemotherapy [33] or in improving therapeutic approach against MPM [34].
