Studies have shown that extracellular HMGB1 binding to RAGE could phosphorylate c-Jun to induce a significant increase in type I collagen secretion [16, 17], which directly accelerates the development of liver fibrosis (c-Jun is a component of the heterodimeric AP1 and is a potent transactivating factor for the collagen1a1 and collagen1a2 genes [17, 18]). The gene discussed is JUN; the disease is Hepatic fibrosis.
