A later study comparing wild-type and MBL knockout mice in a burn model showed that murine MBL deficiency increased the host’s susceptibility to Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection; the skin bacteria load in the MBL-null mice was not different from that in the wild-type mice, but IL-6 and TNF-α levels were lower in the MBL-null mice (53). The gene discussed is MBL2; the disease is neoplasm.
