AIM2 and cancer: The AIM2 inflammasome played an unexpected role in responding to radiation-induced DNA damage and induced caspase-1-mediated pyroptosis in intestinal epithelial cells and bone marrow cells, which is one of the causes of radiation-induced gastrointestinal and hematological toxicity.452 Inhibition of the AIM2 inflammasome may be a promising treatment target for some patients, such as those exposed to ionizing radiation or cancer patients suffering from hematopoiesis or gastrointestinal toxicity due to radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
